I injured my back in August 1998 while moving pallets of maps in Northern Ireland. I did not realise, but approx. 1 month after I found out I had cracked two vertebrae, no's 4 & 5, which is near the bottom of your back. After many operations on my stomach, in 2000 I had a full gastrectomy, which left me with difficulty in eating and very weak. Since then, I had suffered with osteoporosis and my back has started to crumble, especially no's 4 & 5 vertebrae.
Recently I have had problems sitting down and getting comfortable, as there has been a great pain in my lower back. I found myself at a stage where I could not sit down for very long and tended to kneel, or crouch at my work table to use the PC.
It was not until someone from the health & Safety department came into my office, did I realise I could get a new computer chair made to suit me. Andy Price from Barry Bennett Ltd was contacted and he came to my work place and looked at what I did and how I use the chair to work. He then measured me, as I sat in a chair and asked a few questions. Andy then went away with all the information and measurements and promised the new chair would be with me within a week to 10 days.
The chair arrived just over the week, I sat in the new Adapt 600 Ergochair and it was then adjusted to fit me exactly. There had been an area cut-out of the seat, so my coccyx was not pressured by anything and it felt great.
It was not until I sat in the new Adapt 600 Ergochair and worked sitting down, did I realise how much my problem was effecting my work. There is no comparison between my old and new chair, it has helped me immensely.
