| Features Text-to-Speech It is easier to understand a block of text by listening to it, particularly if you struggle with reading. Read&Write Gold reads text aloud to you from any document on your computer. Text can be read using a male or female voice. You can select your preferred voice and set the pitch, speed and volume to suit your individual needs. Read&Write Gold now comes with a selection of new Vocalizer Expressive voices and a number of International voices can be downloaded from the Read&Write Essentials webpage. The software reads text on: Screenshot Reader Sometimes text is difficult to read because it is part of an image or it is on a locked PDF document . Read&Write Gold has the ability to read this text no matter where it is. The Screenshot Reader will read the text aloud to you with word highlighting. You can then save or edit the text in Microsoft Word. Daisy Reader Read&Write Gold reads DAISY Books aloud with each word highlighted as it is spoken. Screen Masking If you have trouble focusing on the screen or need a visual tracking aid to support your reading, the Screen Masking feature will assist you. It masks out the active or non-active parts of the screen, just like a coloured overlay. Read&Write Gold has unique screen tinting options to suit all users including tinting the whole screen, mouse spotlighting, and underlining the point in the document where you are typing. Screen Masking provides unrivalled reading support. PDF Aloud The PDF Aloud tool will read content on a PDF document with each word highlighted as it is spoken. Dictionary There are three types of dictionary available in Read&Write Gold: Basic, Advanced and Online. A definition and sample sentence are provided to help you to understand the meaning of the word in context along with alternative suggestions. All of the above can be read aloud to improve word comprehension. Picture Dictionary If you come across an unfamiliar word, you can click on the Picture Dictionary feature to display a picture of that word. A written definition can also be displayed if required. Speech Maker Read&Write Gold can convert your digital text into an audio file, such as an MP3 file, using high-quality voices. The audible text can be saved directly to your media player and listened to wherever and whenever you need it. Pronunciation Tutor This on-screen tutor helps you visually see how words, including their syllables, are pronounced. The Pronunciation Tutor can be particularly helpful to English Language Learners as it helps in the development of more accurate speech. Translator You can translate single words, paragraphs, or blocks of text into multiple languages using the Read&Write Gold translator. Any on-screen content including digital textbooks can be translated and read aloud in the language of your choice - perfect for language learners! Spell Checker The Spell Checker in Read&Write Gold will help you to check your document for spelling errors. Even the most unusual spelling errors are recognised. Spelling suggestions as well as their definitions are provided and can be read aloud to ensure you choose the correct replacement word. Word Prediction Read&Write Gold's Word Prediction tool is one of the best on the market. It will learn your writing style and predict the word you may want to use next. As you type, a list of suggested words appears in the Prediction Panel. Definitions of the word are also available and can be read aloud, helping to build your vocabulary and develop your writing skills. Use the Word Prediction feature to help you construct sentences with ease. Word Wizard The Word Wizard provides new or alternative words as well as information about your word and the definitions can all be read aloud. For example, if you search for "bicycle", you can choose "parts of a bicycle" and the results will include bicycle parts such as "seat", "wheel", "inner tube", etc. This feature increases vocabulary, understanding, and efficiency. Sounds Like and Confusable Words The Sounds Like and Confusable Words feature identifies words that sound the same but are spelt differently, such as "eye" and "I" or words that are commonly confused, such as "through" and "thorough". When checking your writing or reading it aloud, these similar sounding words might not be identified as an error. Read&Write Gold will provide a list of options, their definitions and sample sentences to ensure that you chose the right word in its context. Verb Checker The Verb Checker feature helps you to determine the correct verb conjugation for past, present or future tense - while constructing a sentence. Once you select a specific word and a desired tense, multiple verb conjugations are provided, such as "I will create" or "You will be creating" for you to use with confidence. Speech Input Speech Input converts speech into digital text. You simply dictate into a microphone connected to your computer to easily create documents. This is especially useful for those who have difficulties with typing. Speak While Typing Speak While Typing allows you to hear each word read aloud as you type. You can also choose to read aloud the entire document when finished. By listening to your work being read aloud, you can correct and self-edit your work before submitting it, thereby reducing many common errors. Calculator You can access a basic or scientific talking calculator from within Read&Write Gold. In addition to mathematical calculations, you can use the calculator for conversions, such as length, mass, velocity, time, temperature and volume. You can even calculate equations within a document. Fact Finder The Fact Finder is a web search tool that makes finding information on the internet easier and faster. Simply highlight a word and click on the Fact Finder icon. Read&Write Gold displays the online search results for your word so you can continue your research. It is a quick and easy way of conducting research and gathering information for reports and assignments. Fact Folder If you have numerous facts from various sources that you would like to collate and organise, use the Fact Folder. It automatically produces a bibliography of the information sources and allows you to add the date, author and category name. This is useful when collecting information for assignments or reports. Fact Mapper Mind mapping is a perfect tool for when you are brainstorming, mapping out ideas and creating essays. With the Fact Mapper, you build your own visual mind map - adding elements, sticky notes and imagery. You can then easily export the elements into an outline. This visual map is important for organising and preparing work before starting to write, and is especially helpful to visual learners. Study Skills Highlighters Read&Write Gold has coloured highlighters that you can use to highlight sections of text, such as main ideas, supporting details and a list of vocabulary. You can extract highlighted text from Word documents and web pages to create study guides, outlines or complete assignments. Highlights from multiple documents or web pages will be collected into a single document including a bibliography. This makes it easy to collate related information, start an outline or create a study guide. This is useful when gathering information for a project from many different sources. Vocabulary List Builder You can easily build a vocabulary list by either selecting words in a document or web page using the highlighters or by entering the words manually. The Vocabulary List Builder creates a Microsoft Word document with the vocabulary words, definitions and images representing each word. This tool helps to expand your vocabulary skills. Voice Note The new Voice Note feature allows you to create and embed recorded voice notes within a Word document (or save them as a .wav file) and can be used by teachers and students to insert instructions or create audio responses. This is useful for revision or enhancing work reports. Word Cloud The new Word Cloud feature provides a visual representation of Word Banks (150 subject-specific Word Banks are included) or it can present selected text in list or word "cloud" format. This is great for creative writing, vocabulary support or help when completing assignments. Scanning Read&Write Gold can scan your print documents or saved images into Microsoft Word, HTML, PDF or ePub formats. You can even scan a document in using a digital camera. Once scanned, the text can be read aloud with word highlighting and you can access all the other support tools in Read&Write Gold. Teacher's Toolkit The Teacher's Toolkit allows teachers to control which features to add or delete from the Read&Write Gold toolbar, configure students' settings, monitor the progress of students, collate spelling error logs, and analyse usage patterns. Teachers can also prepare the toolbars with an "Exam" profile which would restrict the functionality of Read&Write Gold during an exam. PDF Accessibility Editor With the easy-to-use PDF Accessibility Editor, you can set and control the reading order of PDF files. Options include setting and controlling the precise reading order (speech output) of text and graphics, creating a custom reading flow, adding correct pronunciation control over specific vocabulary (such as maths equations), creating and reading Alt Texts, and excluding headers/footers from the reading order. Testmaker Testmaker allows you to quickly create and deliver online interactive tests. You can re-use existing tests or create new tests from within Microsoft Word including various question types, such as Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice, Checkbox, True/False, and Short Answer or Essay. The tests can then be delivered online for students to complete. When finished, the students can save, print or email the test to you. Google Docs Support Read&Write Gold now offers support in Google Docs including text-to-speech, word prediction, phonetic spell checker, dictionaries, study skills highlighters, vocabulary builder, and more! |
