The Spell Catcher Plus Menu
All of Spell Catcher's functionality is conveniently accessible by
clicking Spell Catcher's checkmark, which is located in Windows
task bar. From here you can explore all of Spell Catcher's features.
Most impressive are the settings which let you adjust how Spell
Catcher performs in general and lets you make any additional modifications
to Spell Catcher's operation that may be required by a specific
application.
Interactive Checking
When Spell Catcher is watching what you type it looks for different
kinds of errors. Spell Catcher will tell you about spelling errors,
capitalization errors, punctuation, and double word errors. When
one of these occurs you will be notified either by an audible alarm
or by seeing the checkmark starting to flash. In any case, you can
either keep typing or deal with the current error by opening the
Suggest Spelling window.
Here you see the suggestions for the word "beloww". In
this case, just press the "1" key to select the correct
spelling "below" and the word is corrected in whatever
application you are using.
You can also teach Spell Catcher words (like your last name) so it
doesn't bother you with them in future.
Check Selection
Spell Catcher works either interactively or in a batch mode which
is what it does when processing selected text.
Here you see the dialog that Spell Catcher presents when there are
corrections to be made to some selected text. Once you're satisfied
with all the corrections, press Done, and Spell Catcher will ask
you if you want the changes pasted back into the document in which
you are working.
Shorthand Glossary
Spell Catcher and also be taught useful shorthand expansions to phrases
that you commonly type like "tgif" so that it expands to "thank
God it's Friday". Expansions can be as long as one thousand
characters!
Spell Catcher Plus Thesaurus and Dictionary
You can look up a word in the English dictionary or Thesaurus anytime
you want, but selecting "Lookup..." from Spell Catcher's
menu. You will be presented with a dialog which shows you both the
English dictionary and Thesaurus indexed to the word you've just
typed or selected.
Here you can click on any word you presented in either the thesaurus
or dictionary and use it to replace the word you've just typed or
selected (energize, fortify, invigorate, reinforce). This can really
help when you just know there's a better word than the one you're
using!
All your applications - one set of user dictionaries
If you use Spell Catcher Plus, you no longer have to add new words
to the built-in spell checker for every application you use. The
same goes for the shorthands you use. Maintain one set of customized
words and shorthands, use them in all your applications!
If this alone wasn't enough, Spell Catcher allows you to create and
use as many customized dictionaries and glossaries as you want.
Spell Catcher Plus Modify Selection Modules and Macros
Spell Catcher Plus has the ability to perform single or multiple
text manipulations in a row, allowing you to create "macros." Below
you will find a listing and description of each of the shipping Modify
Selected modules you can use to create your own, custom text manipulation
macros.
Capitalize Sentences
Capitalizes the first word of each sentence in the selected text.
Form Paragraphs
Forms paragraphs by changing single return characters to spaces in
the selected text. Operates only on TEXT on the clipboard. Formatting
may be lost when changes are pasted in.
lowercase
Converts every word in the selected text to lowercase.
Multiple Spaces to Single Space
Changes runs of multiple spaces to a single space in the selected
text.
Multiple Spaces to Tab
Changes runs of multiple spaces to a single tab in the selected text.
Quote
Quote the selected text for inclusion in an email reply.Operates
only on TEXT on the clipboard. Formatting may be lost when changes
are pasted in.
Search and Replace
Performs a search and replace for the user defined word or word pairs
in the selected text.
Smarten Quotes
Changes straight quotes to curly (typographer's) quotes in the selected
text.
Spaces to Tabs
Changes a user-defined number of spaces to tabs in the selected text.
Statistics
Calculates various statistics for the selected text such as word,
character, and paragraph counts, approximate writing level and much
more.This module is excellent for copy writers needing to satisfy
copy of a desired word count.
Straighten Quotes
Changes curly (typographer’s) quotes to straight quotes in
the selected text.
Strip Characters
Strips user-defined characters from the beginning and end of lines
in the selected text.Operates only on TEXT on the clipboard. Formatting
may be lost when changes are pasted in.
Strip White Space
Strips white space from the beginning and end of lines in the selected
text.Operates only on TEXT on the clipboard. Formatting may be lost
when changes are pasted in.
Tabs to Spaces
Changes tabs to spaces in the selected text.
Title Case
Capitalizes every word of the selected text.
Title Case Strict
Capitalizes every word in the strict sense, converts to lowercase,
then capitalizes.
UPPERCASE
Converts every word in the selected text to UPPERCASE.
Word Count
Calculates word and character count for the selected text.
Email Cleanup Macro
Cleans up quoted and hard-wrapped email.
Netscape Text Quote Macro
