Spring Workshops - Global AutoCorrect

Global AutoCorrect

Incorporating cutting-edge technology to accurately correct spelling mistakes

LexAble will be demonstrating version 2 of their popular Global AutoCorrect software, incorporating cutting-edge technology to accurately correct many more of the user's spelling mistakes. There will be free copies of the software for all attendees – definitely not one to miss!

Global AutoCorrect
Since Global AutoCorrect was released in 2009, the software has become widely recommended through the DSA and access to work for people with dyslexia and literacy issues. Global AutoCorrect started out as one person's individual coping strategy in school and university, but has developed into a solution that now enables thousands of users to focus on the content of their ideas without being distracted by spelling. In recognition of this, Neil Cottrell, who will be demonstrating the software, was named the British Dyslexia Association's Young Achiever of the Year in 2010.

For many people with dyslexia, the writing process can be extremely frustrating for two reasons:
1. Red underlines – getting distracted by a multitude of red underlines.
2. Spell-checking – going through a long and disheartening spell-checking process.

Global AutoCorrect works in the background, automatically correcting the user's spelling as they type in any program, resulting in:
1. Fewer distracting red underlines.
2. Less time spent spell-checking.

The software also acts as a learning tool, focussing learning on the user's most frequent mistakes.

New in Version 2
For over a year LexAble has been working with some of the very best linguists, dyslexia specialists and algorithm developers, to make some big improvements for version 2. Now, in the instant after the user types a word, Global AutoCorrect will compare the word's relative phonetic distance to all words in the dictionary, and if it's certain about what was meant then it will make an intelligent, accurate AutoCorrection.

As an example, the word "understandably" may be spelt in any of the following ways:

understadably, ondarstandably, understandabally, understandaby, understandobley, undersandably, undertandably, undarstandebly, undarsandabbly, undestandebly, understandbly, uderstandabley, udnerstadably, uderstandabley, enderstendablley, anderstadably, anderstandably, undrstandably ...
With the intelligent, accurate AutoCorrection functionality in Global AutoCorrect v2, every one of these misspellings will be corrected instantly.
