Barry Bennett is a family owned business originally founded in 1971 by Mr Barry Bennett, a former Remington typewriter engineer. Barry developed the business to become one of the most successful and largest office supplies firms in the Greater Manchester area with a retail premises in Bolton.

In 1994 Barry's son, Antony Bennett, was working as a sales rep for the business when a student popped into the retail premises because he couldn't get the DSA equipment and software he'd purchased elsewhere working properly, and he desperately needed help. He went onto explain that students in receipt of the DSA had to purchase each piece of kit from a different supplier which made the process very stressful for them and delayed their studies. Antony saw an opportunity to provide a one-stop-shop service which made the process much easier for the student and lead the way to how DSA equipment would be supplied in the future.

Antony became Managing Director when his father retired in the year 2000 and since then Barry Bennett has grown to become the leading supplier of DSA equipment throughout the whole of the UK and now concentrates solely on the DSA business.

Antony is passionate about ensuring that each student is treated with the upmost respect and that we make the order, delivery and aftercare service as seamless and stress-free as possible. We pride ourselves on exceptional service levels and customer care, and currently employ over 140 staff, including a nationwide team of trained installation engineers, qualified assessors, certified trainers and service support technicians which means we are able to provide a quick, efficient service throughout the UK, whatever the requirement.

The operations
Based at our head office in Bolton, we have dedicated teams for quotations, sales order processing and scheduling services.

Our quotes team are dedicated to providing information and quotations to DSA assessors and for the maintenance of our online quotation portal to ensure it is constantly updated with the latest products. This involves working closely with our purchasing team and suppliers.

Sales orders
The sales order team liaise with closely with students and funding bodies to ensure that all orders received are efficiently processed, fully updated and that the student is always updated with the progress of their order. The team are also on hand to guide students through the upgrade process, should they wish to consider upgrading their DSA funded computer.

The scheduling team are then responsible for liaising with customers to arrange their delivery, installation and training sessions.

Our engineers & trainers
All field staff are permanently employed by Barry Bennett. They are fully trained in their roles, CRB checked, disability awareness trained, and undergo regular monitoring and appraisals to ensure our end-users receive the best possible service. Where necessary we can provide chaperones, female only trainers, carer support training and translators for hearing impaired students.

For your piece of mind, our team of 26 trainers are either certified as, or working towards, Edexcel Level 3 in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (QCF) or equivalent.
